first_img FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailSALT LAKE CITY-Former BYU defensive lineman Devin Kaufusi has committed to Utah, per information released Wednesday.Kaufusi entered the transfer portal following the first week of BYU spring practices last month.Kaufusi confirmed this commitment on his Twitter account, expressing his thanks to Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham and defensive line coach Lewis Powell for this opportunity.As a junior, Kaufusi will have two seasons of eligibility for the Utes.He may be eligible to play in 2020 as the NCAA will conduct a vote concerning whether transfers can play immediately. This must be approved by the full Division I council.In two seasons with the Cougars, Kaufusi has amassed 8 solo tackles, 15 combined tackles and 2 passes defensed.If he is granted permission to play immediately, the 6-7 257-pound Kaufusi will prove to be a godsend for the Utes.Utah has lost Bradlee Anae, Leki Fotu and John Penisini from last season’s squad.The Utes did sign a pair of former high school defensive line stars, former Corner Canyon High School star Van Fillinger and Xavier Carlton of Juan Diego Catholic High School, however.
