Pigeons Playing Ping Pong Shares First-Set Video From 2018 New Year’s stEve Show [Watch]

first_imgA few weeks ago, the energizing jam/rock band known as Pigeons Playing Ping Pong and their fans known as, “The Flock,” gathered at Stage AE in Pittsburgh to send 2018 off in style with a “New Year’s stEve” performance, partially themed around famous “Steves” from the music realm. Stevie Wonder was one of those main themes for the night, but the growingly popular band also made sure to incorporate music from Aerosmith (for Steven Tyler), Fleetwood Mac (for Stevie Nicks), Steve Miller Band, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and more. In the weeks since, the band originally from the Baltimore area has provided their fans with video samples of their pro-shot performance from that night. They went all in on Tuesday by debuting the entire first-set video from the show to their Facebook page. The pro-shot video footage from the opening set runs at an impressive 1 hour and 22 minutes, showcasing a first half that included notable covers like “Sweet Emotion”, “Something’ For Ya”, and “Superstition”, in addition to their own originals like “Burning Up My Time” and “Poseidon”. The first half of the show that night also included some impressive sit-ins from the horn section of West End Blend, in addition to Magic Beans‘ keyboardist Casey Russell coming out to join them on a handful of songs throughout the middle of the set.The video starts out just as any Flocker would imagine, with the band triumphantly taking the stage in unison and matching suits as they take a moment to soak in what was their “biggest [sold-out] headlining show ever,” according to singer/guitarist Greg Ormont. The dapper-looking band would go on to deliver a 12-song set to get everyone in the audience all loosened up and ready to dance their way into 2019.
