Duckie blasts Humble Lion’s away form

first_img It was a heated game with both teams battling for a win in order to move closer to a top-six championship play-off position in April. In 11 away games, Humble Lion have only 12 points resulted from two wins and six drawn encounters with another three losses completing their returns on the road. Duckie was clear in pointing to their unconvincing showing away from Effortville as a major hindrance to their ambitions. “We need to improve on our away record. I thought we did badly as the team has been in fourth place for several weeks. We need a good run in the league,” Duckie told The Gleaner following yesterday’s result. “The players need to be more focused, especially when playing away. The aim is to end in the top two for an automatic semi-final spot,” he explained. UWI’s assistant coach, Andrew Peart, was, however, more satisfied with the result. “It was a deserved point playing against another title challenger. We could not afford to lose to them. We went behind, but stayed in the game and found the equaliser,” Peart said. UWI stayed in third position on 39 points, while Humble Lion are three points adrift on 36 in fifth position. Portmore United, which got the better of Arnett Gardens, moved into fourth spot with 37 points to their credit. FIERY AFFAIR Coach of Humble Lion Donovan Duckie says that his team needs to improve on its away record in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) following their 1-1 draw against UWI FC at the UWI Bowl in Kingston yesterday. Humble Lion actually got their noses in front after taking the lead courtesy of an own goal by UWI defender Taniel McKenzie in the 43rd minute. The home side, however, went back on level terms when big defender Patrick Brown netted in the 72nd minute. Both teams ended with ten players each as Ramoun Reid of UWI and Humble Lion’s Jermaine Christian were ejected by FIFA referee Odette Hamilton for fighting in the 79th minute.
