OnePlus 5T with bezel-less display leaked again, launch likely in November

first_imgIn recent weeks, there have been several reports that OnePlus is readying to launch the successor to the OnePlus 5, tipped to be called OnePlus 5T. This will be a successor to the OnePlus 5, which was launched in June this year. The upcoming smartphone is rumoured to sport slimmer bezels, based on recent leaked images. Now, a new teaser image has surfaced online that reaffirms the OnePlus 5T’s near bezel-less design. The display will also have a resolution of 18:9, which will make it slightly narrower compared to the OnePlus 5. Currently, there are details about the launch or price of the OnePlus 5T. But chances are that the OnePlus 5T will be either launched in November, or in early December. The price of the phone is expected to be similar to that of the OnePlus 5 price, which means around Rs 32,999 for the base variant.  The teaser comes a day after another image — a screenshot of the the OnePlus 5T listing on the OnePlus store — gave people a blurry look at the phone. The listing on the OnePlus store was accompanied by a new tagline that said “Larger screen. Same Footprint.” The screenshot sure seems very legitimate, almost confirming that the new OnePlus 5T will come with a larger screen compared to what you see in the OnePlus 5.   The latest teaser image was provided by a source close to Android Authority. The teaser doesn’t give us a complete look at the alleged OnePlus 5T, but it does show enough of the display to tell us that this will sport slimmer bezels than the OnePlus 5. This won’t be surprising as this year has been all about chopping down bezels. With the OnePlus 5T, the company will look to compete against the likes of Galaxy S8, Mi Mix 2 and iPhone X to name a few, at least on the display front. The S8 among these phones also sports a display with 18:9 aspect ratio.advertisementBased on the teaser and earlier reports, the OnePlus 5T is expected to sport a larger 6-inch (1080×2160) display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. In other words, it’s not coming with the QHD+ display of 1440X2880 pixels that we have seen in the phones like the Google Pixel 2 XL. Instead it is still going to be the 1080P but the vertical resolution is increasing. In comparison to the OnePlus 5T, the OnePlus 5 features a 5.5-inch full-HD display with 16:9 aspect ratio. Slimmer bezels on the front means OnePlus will likely have a fingerprint sensor on the back above the logo, which can be seen from past teasers. This is similar to what the phones like the Mi Mix 2 and the Google Pixel have. These phones too have fingerprint sensor on the rear. Earlier reports also suggest that the OnePlus 5T could look similar to the Oppo F5, which is expected to launch in India on November 2. This is a strong possibility given the fact that the OnePlus 5 looked very similar to the Oppo R11 when it was launched in June. Apart from the display, the new teaser also reveals an aluminium frame and a speaker grille on the bottom left. You can expect the phone to sport a USB Type-C port on the bottom centre, similar to what is there in the OnePlus 5. What will be interesting to see is whether OnePlus will ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack on the OnePlus 5T seeing as how more and more OEMs are dropping the audio jack, the most recent case being Google with the Pixel 2. Removing the jack could also give the company more room to add a larger battery or a second speaker grille. But then we also know that OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei considers the headphone jack an important feature and hence may not be in favour of ditching it, especially so soon after highlighting it as one of the good things about the OnePlus 5 during that phone’s launch.  Also Read: OnePlus 5T images leaked again, show its bezel-less screen and fingerprint sensor on rearAs per past reports, OnePlus could also bump up capabilities of the front camera of the OnePlus 5T. The smartphone is expected to sport a dual front camera module that will bring some software additions like a portrait mode for selfies. This was something hinted at before the OnePlus 5 launch in June when OnePlus shot some promo videos with Bollywood actors who talked about what they would like to see in their new phone. In one of the videos, mention of dual-cameras for selfies was made. But then the OnePlus 5 launched and we saw that it came only with the singe camera on the front, the same 16-megapixel camera that we saw in the OnePlus 3T.advertisementThis time, however, there are rumours that the OnePlus 5T will come with two cameras on the front. One of these cameras is expected to be the same 16-megapixel shooter that is inside the OnePlus 5. But the other camera could be the a 2megapixel shooter that will gather the deoth information and hence will bring a sort of portrait mode to the front cameras, similar to the portrait mode that the OnePlus 5 has for its rear cameras. Talking of rear cameras, the OnePlus 5T is expected to come with the same rear-camera setup that is inside the OnePlus 5. This means it will two cameras. One of these will be the 16-megapixel main camera, paired with a wide-angle lens that has F1.8 aperture. The second camera would be the 20-megapixel shooter than will will be paired with a zoom lens (possibly with 35mm focal length) and a F2.4 or F2.8 lens.Apart from the screen and front camera camera, the OnePlus 5 and the Oneplus 5T are going to be mostly similar. Although, there could be one more difference, which would be the battery. Given the fact that the screen size of the OnePlus 5T is going to more — it will be a longer phone it seems, it may come with a battery with slightly higher capacity compared to 3400 mAh battery in the OnePlus 5. Rest of the hardware of the OnePlus 5T would be fairly similar to that of the OnePlus 5. This means that OnePlus 5T too would be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, and will have at least 6GB RAM along with 64GB internal storage.last_img
